Cara McKenna is definitely one and I pre-ordered Hard Time, which I had strong doubts about, but nevertheless enjoyed immensely. I didn't expect it to be so sweet and tender, but of course making assumptions about how a violent criminal would treat his lady love is asinine, an assumption the heroine herself has to work through too. McKenna is a perfect example of a romance author who will never receive enough credit on a literary stage. Hard Time felt important to me. I hope a lot of other readers check it out.<br /><br />I've commented before that I only read historicals, which thanks to you is very much no longer true.
