Romance Novels for Memorial Day

A brief post today, after a long Memorial Day weekend here in the States. In keeping with this holiday commemorating those who lost their lives during war, a question: what are your favorite romance novels featuring protagonists who have served in the military, or lost a family member to war? Bonus points if the protagonist in the military is a woman....

  2. I don't think I've read enough to have a favorite, but His Very Own Girl by Carrie Lofty is a terrific read (with some feminist issues, to boot.) Woman pilot.

Not a romance but Code Name Verity should not be missed. It's all about heroic women.

Teeny bit of romance in Blackout and All Clear, tributes to the "war at home" during WW2.

And since I'm specializing in not-really-romance today, the loss of someone to war is really movingly portrayed in The Diviners by Libba Bray.

    1. Thanks, Willaful, for the recs. Gave CODE NAME VERITY to my daughter for Xmas, but have been a bit afraid to pick it up myself -- with all the wonderful press it's gotten, I'm worried it won't live up to the hype...

Was debating over the Lofty, having had mixed feelings about her two Victorian historians, but will check it out given your rec.
